A wonderful photo of a very special uncle. We were lucky enough to come and visit Mike and have happy memories of Sunday morning at church in Russell. He was so happy in the Bay and his letters home to us all in the UK reflected this He certainly was a character and his visits home to see his sister and her three boys (Jonathan, Simon, and Wiliam) brought about some wonderful adventures. Later on his great nephews and nieces enjoyed visiting New Zealand and hearing his stories.

My dad said it all Mike was such an unforgettable character and had such amazing and adventurous life, wonder if someone is out there writing a book on his life journey already.

Mike aged 87 passed away peacefully in his secluded home called the Burrow near Opua Friday 28th May as the moon was coming up over the Waikare Inlet. He was a long haul sailor, submariner, teacher of real navigation and friend to many aspiring single handed saiolors and wayward youths… Go well Mike the world is a far richer place for your wise participation.
